CAVOUR - Computer Aided VOting URn
Features
A short list of what this environment does (or will do)
- Installation: after the download of gzipped tar, just point your preferred browser to setup.php and follow the on-screen instructions. Your MySQL database will be set up, as well as the general conf.php, and administrative accounts will be created
- First setup: Log in as Administrator and decide what the appearance of the system will be. You may choose between pre-defined color/font combinations and your own preferences
- Users management: inserting 3, 300 or 30'000 users in the system will require an effort that is logarithmically proportional to their number. Automated tasks will allow to populate the users tables in the database starting from a variety of file formats. Ehr .. really, if you need to insert 30 Million users, some problems could arise ... maybe you will nominate sub-administrators to help in this task
- Definition of electoral events: elections, referenda, ballots, and so on, can be defined and highly customized to your needs. Openings, closing, electoral base, urns, candidates, questions, answers, etc. etc. are defineable within few clicks
- Remote urn management: the electors may express their vote as you prefer. Home, centralized places, a single place are possible as well.
- Vote counting: the fine thing is to discover who has won. Blind counting as well as real-time results update is selectable
- Results display: the final results of each electoral event are displayed according to pre- or user-defined templates
Roadmap
How will we provide all such facilities? In chronological order ...
- Consider phpMyAdmin for the initial population of users, settings and preferences tables
- Begin with the page used to administer the system
- Introduce the pages used by the electors to cast their votes
